The newly released Claude Sonnet 5.5 looks like a strong model, especially at its price, but I can't offer it to users who require EU-based inference because there doesn't appear to be an EU cross-region profile. Most other Anthropic models, aside from Fable, seem to have EU availability. Since Opus 5.5 is available in the EU, I expected Sonnet 5.5 from the same family to be offered there too. Is this likely a temporary launch limitation, or is there a specific reason for the regional restriction?

A same-day release does not necessarily mean every inference profile will be available immediately. Regional deployment requires capacity planning and possibly additional data-residency or compliance work, so global availability may be the initial launch configuration rather than a permanent decision. It would be worth waiting for an official regional availability update before assuming EU support is ruled out.
It may simply be too early to draw conclusions. The model had only been announced a few hours earlier, and the global profile appears to be the only option outside certain restricted environments. AWS may still be preparing regional capacity, checking demand, or rolling out the EU profile gradually. GPU availability and compliance work could both affect the timing.
That makes sense, although AWS often launches models across providers and regions very quickly. I’m mainly trying to determine whether the lack of an EU profile is expected to be temporary or an intentional long-term limitation.

Fair point. I was surprised because Opus 5.5 already has EU availability, but I’ll treat the missing Sonnet profile as a possible rollout delay for now.
