My mouse works inconsistently after I turn on my PC. Sometimes it functions normally, but other times it stops responding when I switch pages or use Alt+Tab while gaming. Ctrl+Alt+Delete temporarily brings it back, but I don't want to repeat that every time. I've tested multiple mice, including a wired model and an Attack Shark X11 using its 2.4 GHz USB receiver. My system has a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, RTX 5080, ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi motherboard, 32 GB of DDR5 memory, and a 2 TB WD Black SN850X SSD. Could this be related to the motherboard or USB drivers?

Since the problem happens with both a wireless mouse and a separate wired mouse, the mouse itself is probably not the cause. Try plugging the mouse directly into a different rear USB port, preferably a USB 2.0 port, and avoid front-panel ports or hubs. Also reinstall or update the motherboard chipset and USB drivers, then check Windows power settings to make sure USB selective suspend and USB power-saving options are disabled.
Check whether the issue happens only after waking from sleep or when a game is running. In Device Manager, open the USB controllers and HID devices, then disable the option that allows Windows to turn off the device to save power. Updating the AMD chipset package from the motherboard manufacturer or AMD may also fix intermittent USB disconnects.
A motherboard fault is possible, but it’s better to rule out software first. Install current chipset, BIOS, and mouse drivers, test every rear USB port, and watch Device Manager for a disconnect or warning when the mouse stops responding. If the keyboard also briefly disconnects, or the problem continues after a clean driver and BIOS update, then the motherboard or its USB controller becomes much more likely.

I’ve tested more than one mouse, including a wired one, so I was also starting to suspect the USB ports or motherboard rather than the mouse.
