I've been dealing with repeated boot problems and narrowed the fault down to either the CPU or motherboard. I've already replaced the CPU with an upgraded model, but the issue remained, so I'm now looking for a replacement motherboard. My previous board was an MSI B450M Pro-M2 MAX, which seems to be discontinued. I'd ideally like to spend around £50, though I could stretch to roughly £80–£90 if it's worthwhile. The rest of the build uses the same components from my existing parts list, so I'm looking for a compatible, reliable, cost-effective AM4 motherboard.

You should be able to find something around £50, but check the BIOS version carefully. Some older B450 boards may not support a newer Ryzen chip without a BIOS update, and cheaper models often don’t have a BIOS flashback button. A B550 is more likely to support Ryzen 5000 out of the box. If buying used, ask the seller which BIOS version is installed and whether they can confirm that the board boots.
The ASRock B550M Pro4 is another good budget motherboard. I’ve used one in a system that ran continuously and it held up well, so it would be worth considering if you can find it at a reasonable price.
For a basic budget option, the ASUS TUF Gaming A520M-PLUS II should be suitable. If you can spend closer to your upper limit, the MSI B550M Pro-VDH WiFi is a stronger all-around choice and includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
A B550 board would be a sensible choice, especially if you’re using a Ryzen 5000-series processor. The ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi II is worth considering if built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are useful, although it’s worth checking recent reviews for reports of boot or power issues before buying.

Thanks! I’ve seen a few reviews mentioning possible boot, CPU, and power problems, so I may avoid that one. Do you think the MSI B550M Pro-VDH, especially the Wi-Fi version, would be a good alternative?
