I have a Western Digital WD800BEVE 2.5-inch hard drive and want to use it in a desktop computer. Ideally, I'd like to mount it on some kind of adapter or board that can connect to the motherboard like a plug-and-play drive. What cables, adapter, or mounting hardware would I need?

You can also install it in a 5.25-inch drive bay with a 2.5-inch mounting bracket or hot-swap bay, but the bay must support 2.5-inch IDE/PATA drives. You’ll still need an IDE data connection and power adapter; a modern SATA-only motherboard may require an IDE-to-SATA converter.

The WD800BEVE uses the older 2.5-inch IDE/PATA interface, not SATA. You’ll need a 2.5-inch IDE-to-desktop-IDE adapter or a USB-to-IDE enclosure/adapter. If your motherboard still has an IDE port, connect the adapter to the motherboard’s IDE ribbon cable and provide the appropriate power connection. Otherwise, using a USB adapter is usually the simplest option.

So this drive is IDE/PATA rather than SATA? I’ll look for a 2.5-inch IDE adapter instead of a SATA cable.
