How can I lower an i9-13900K’s gaming temperatures without losing FPS?

My i9-13900K reaches around 90–100°C while playing a relatively light game such as CS2. I've tried changing BIOS settings, but the settings that reduce temperatures also seem to lower performance by roughly 100 FPS. Disabling Intel Turbo Boost keeps the CPU near 40°C during games, but the FPS drop is significant. I'm using an Aorus Z790 motherboard and a Corsair H150i liquid cooler, along with a case that has several fans. Upgrading the case didn't noticeably improve temperatures. What BIOS, power-limit, voltage, or cooling adjustments could reduce temperatures without sacrificing much performance?

The i9-13900K is a very power-hungry processor and can run hot, but 90–100°C during gaming suggests it may be drawing more power than necessary or that the cooler isn’t transferring heat efficiently. A 360 mm AIO like the H150i should generally be capable, so check that the pump is running at the expected speed, the radiator fans are configured correctly, and the cooler is mounted evenly with fresh thermal paste. Also verify that the protective film was removed and that the radiator has adequate airflow.

I’m already using a Corsair H150i and a case with plenty of fans, so I’m wondering whether the motherboard is applying overly aggressive power or voltage settings.

You shouldn’t need to disable Turbo Boost entirely. Try setting Intel’s recommended power limits in the BIOS instead of using the motherboard’s unlimited or enhanced turbo mode. You can also apply a modest adaptive undervolt or negative voltage offset, then test stability. Limiting peak power slightly often lowers temperatures substantially while preserving most gaming performance, since CS2 usually benefits more from sustained CPU clocks and low latency than from unrestricted power.
