I'm building a PC with a Ryzen 7 5800X and currently have two air coolers available: the Noctua NH-U12A, priced at about $45, and the NZXT T120, which costs around $20. If the T120 can keep the processor running safely without excessive noise or thermal throttling, I'd prefer it to save money. Which cooler would be the better choice, and are there any other affordable options worth considering?

The NZXT T120 should work fine for a 5800X at stock settings, so it’s a reasonable budget choice if you’re mainly gaming and don’t mind somewhat higher temperatures or fan noise. The Noctua will generally perform better and more quietly, but the cheaper cooler should still be adequate.
If you can find one locally, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE is another strong option for the money. It has handled both a Ryzen 7 5800X and a 5700X3D well in my builds, and it would give you more cooling headroom than the T120.
Those two aren’t your only possible choices, but availability matters. Between them, choose the T120 for the lowest-cost acceptable setup, or the NH-U12A if the $25 difference is worth better temperatures, lower noise, and extra headroom. Make sure the case has decent airflow and remember that the 5800X can run fairly warm by design.
