I'm planning to replace the seven fans in my case and would like to keep the total cost around $120 or less. RGB would be nice, but reliable fan-speed control matters more. My current MSI 120 mm fans match well aesthetically, but MSI Center has been extremely unreliable over the past two years. I've tried deep cleanups, reinstalling different versions, troubleshooting guides, and even a fresh Windows installation, but the software still rarely works. The fan hub also uses a two-wire connection, so I can't properly control the fan curve without MSI's software. I'm somewhat tied to that ecosystem because I also use an MSI OLED monitor and case. I've been considering ASUS Prime MR120 reverse-blade fans since Armoury Crate has worked better for me, but I'd like to know how they perform and whether there are better alternatives in this price range.

Before replacing everything, check whether the hub can accept a standard motherboard PWM or ARGB connection. If it can, bypassing the proprietary software and connecting the fans directly—or through a simpler hub—would make fan curves much easier to manage. Daisy-chaining fans to motherboard headers is often less troublesome than relying on a closed ecosystem.
OpenRGB and SignalRGB are worth testing for lighting, but they may not solve the actual problem here. Some proprietary fan hubs don’t expose fan-speed control or aren’t detected properly, so third-party software can end up controlling the RGB while leaving the fan curve unavailable.
Thermalright is also worth considering if the priority is getting seven decent fans under budget. Their fans are usually much cheaper than premium ecosystem models, leaving room for a basic PWM/ARGB hub. Just confirm the motherboard has enough control headers or use a powered hub that passes the PWM signal through.
The older Corsair SP120 fans were genuinely durable; mine have survived multiple builds since 2014. If you can find a reasonably priced modern equivalent, they’re still a solid direction, though you’ll want to verify whether the included controller supports standard PWM and ARGB connections.
