I'm building my first mid-range gaming PC and have already purchased a Gigabyte RX 9070 XT Gaming OC with 16GB of VRAM, 32GB of Kingston Fury Beast RGB DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, and an MSI 1440p 180Hz monitor. I've seen people mention problems with this graphics card, so I'd like to choose the rest of the system carefully for good compatibility and reliability. I'm currently considering a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D, an MSI B850 Gaming Pro WiFi 6E motherboard, a 2TB WD Black SN7100 SSD, and a white Corsair RM850e 850W power supply. I'm unsure which CPU makes the most sense for my budget, and I'd also appreciate recommendations for a CPU cooler and case.

Since this is a fresh build, you shouldn’t need to worry much about the common AMD GPU complaints caused by switching from an NVIDIA card without properly removing the old drivers. A clean Windows installation and current chipset and graphics drivers should give you a good starting point. Your planned 850W power supply is also a sensible choice, assuming it’s a reputable, modern unit with the appropriate GPU power cable.
The 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 kit is a strong match for an AM5 gaming system. A quality dual-tower air cooler should be enough for either processor in most builds, while a 240mm or 280mm liquid cooler is optional rather than required. For the case, choose one with a spacious interior, good front or bottom intake, and several included fans so the large graphics card gets plenty of airflow. Also check the GPU’s exact length against the case’s clearance before buying.
For 1440p gaming, both CPUs can work very well with the RX 9070 XT. The 9800X3D is the stronger option if your budget allows it, especially for high-refresh gaming, but the 7800X3D is still a capable choice and may offer better value if it’s significantly cheaper. Make sure the motherboard BIOS supports the CPU you choose, and prioritize a board with solid power delivery, useful connectivity, and good memory support rather than paying extra for features you won’t use.
The 7800X3D and 9800X3D are more like high-end gaming processors than typical mid-range parts, though the overall build can still be considered mid-range depending on the rest of the components and your budget.

That’s reassuring. I’ll be starting from a clean install, and I’m mainly trying to make sure the remaining parts are a good match.
