How can I disable the demo overlay on my old TV without its remote?

I use an older television as my computer display, and it recently started showing a persistent overlay describing the TV's features. The overlay appears to come from the television rather than the computer, so I suspect the TV has entered Demo Mode or Store Mode. I've already checked the available menu settings, but I can't find a way to disable it, and I no longer have the original remote. What information or steps would help me turn this off?

A cheap universal remote is probably the easiest solution. Many TVs hide the Demo Mode setting behind a remote-only menu, even when the buttons on the television can open the regular settings. Make sure the replacement remote supports the TV’s brand.

If the TV has physical buttons, check for a menu, input, or volume button combination that opens the setup menu, but this varies widely by model. Without the model number, it’s difficult to give precise instructions. If the overlay can’t be disabled and a compatible remote is unavailable, replacing the display may be the simplest option.

Before replacing it, I’d try a universal remote or a phone-based remote app if the television supports infrared control. The model number should confirm which option will work.

This sounds like Demo Mode or Store Mode. The exact steps depend on the TV’s manufacturer and model, so a photo of the overlay and the model number from the back label would be very helpful. You may be able to find the model-specific instructions by searching for the manufacturer, model number, and “disable Demo Mode.”
