Should I Choose the Radeon 9060 XT or GeForce RTX 5060 for 1440p Gaming?

I'm building a PC with a budget of about €1,500 and I'm stuck choosing the graphics card. In my country, the RTX 5060 costs around €450, the Radeon 9060 XT costs about €550, the Radeon 9070 GRE is around €650, and the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB is roughly €700, which is outside my budget. I want to play at 1440p with maximum settings. The 9060 XT appears significantly faster and has more VRAM, but I don't want to lose access to DLSS and frame generation. I'd appreciate an objective comparison rather than recommendations based purely on brand preference.

Some buyers have reported needing to troubleshoot Radeon driver timeouts or tuning settings, while NVIDIA often feels more plug-and-play. That is a legitimate preference, but it does not change the hardware value here: at the listed prices, the 9060 XT 16GB is the more sensible 1440p option unless reliability with specific software is your top priority.

DLSS and NVIDIA's frame generation are still generally more polished than AMD's equivalents, so the RTX 5060 can be attractive if you mainly play games with excellent DLSS support. However, those features do not completely offset the 9060 XT's higher base performance and substantially larger VRAM capacity for this resolution.

AMD's newer upscaling and frame-generation features are improving, so choosing Radeon does not mean giving up every form of upscaling or frame generation.

The RTX 5060 is difficult to recommend for a new 1440p build at these prices. Eight gigabytes can become a serious limitation, particularly with maximum textures, even when the average frame rate looks acceptable. Unless you specifically need NVIDIA features or software support, the 9060 XT 16GB is better value.

For your stated use case, the Radeon 9060 XT 16GB is the stronger choice. It offers better traditional rendering performance, twice the VRAM, and more headroom for demanding 1440p textures. The RTX 5060 can benefit from DLSS in supported games, but its 8GB of VRAM may lead to stuttering or reduced texture settings in newer titles.

The 16GB model is worth prioritizing if you can manage it. The extra memory should make the card age better, especially at 1440p.

It may also be worth checking the Radeon 9070 GRE. At about €650, it is only €100 more than the 9060 XT and could provide a meaningful performance jump. The trade-off is that it has less VRAM, so compare benchmarks for the games you actually play before stretching the budget.

If the extra €100 would force compromises elsewhere in the build, stick with the 9060 XT 16GB. A balanced system is preferable to overspending on the GPU.
