Will This Corsair DDR5 Kit Work Even If It Isn’t on the Motherboard QVL?

I'm new to building PCs and didn't realize memory QVL lists existed until after buying my parts. I have a Corsair 32GB DDR5-6000 kit rated at CL38 with 38-44-44-96 timings (CMH32GX5M2D6000Z38), and I'm planning to use it with a Gigabyte X870M Aorus Elite WiFi 7 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The kit doesn't appear on Gigabyte's or Corsair's QVL, so I'm wondering whether it should still boot and run properly, including at its rated speed with EXPO enabled. Has anyone had good results using memory that wasn't specifically listed for their motherboard?

You can also tune it manually if necessary, but that usually isn’t worth doing for a new build unless you enjoy troubleshooting memory stability. Test the system with a proper memory stress test after enabling EXPO. If it isn’t stable, reducing the speed is generally easier than changing a bunch of timings. The fact that the kit isn’t on the QVL doesn’t mean you need to return the motherboard.

QVL lists aren’t exhaustive compatibility lists. They only show the specific kits the manufacturer tested, and there are far too many memory models for every kit to be included. A reputable Corsair DDR5 kit will very likely boot and work in this system. The main question is whether it will remain stable at its advertised 6000 MT/s settings.

AM5 memory behavior can vary between individual CPUs and kits, especially with higher speeds or more demanding configurations. Still, DDR5-6000 is a common target for this platform, and the motherboard’s supported memory list is not a requirement. Just be prepared to run the RAM at a lower setting if your particular combination doesn’t like EXPO.

It should almost certainly POST and run, but there’s no guarantee that EXPO at 6000 MT/s will be completely stable. BIOS updates can improve memory compatibility, so update the board before troubleshooting. If EXPO causes crashes, start with the default JEDEC settings and then try a lower memory speed or slightly looser timings.
