Why Do Downloads to My D: Drive Keep Failing With Corrupted Files or Disk Write Errors?

Anything I download to my D: drive—whether it's a game, video, or another type of file—eventually fails with errors such as "corrupted files" or "disk write error." I checked the drive with CrystalDiskInfo, and it reports that the drive is healthy. What should I test next to determine whether the problem is the drive, its connection, system memory, or something else?

A “healthy” CrystalDiskInfo result doesn’t completely rule out a problem. Check the full SMART values rather than only the overall status, and test the drive with a tool such as H2testw. That can reveal bad sectors or problems writing across the disk, although it may take several hours. Also run MemTest86+ to rule out faulty RAM.

More details are needed before anyone can identify the cause. It would help to know the exact drive model, whether it’s an HDD or SSD, its age, whether it was recently installed, and whether this problem is new. If the drive contains important files, copy them to a working disk first, then test whether files copied onto D: become corrupted.

The issue could be as simple as a loose connection or a failing SATA cable. Reseat the drive connections or try a different SATA cable and motherboard port if this is an internal drive. If possible, try downloading the same files to another disk to see whether the corruption follows the drive or only happens on D:.
