Will an Intel i7-10700F Hold Back an RX 9070 XT at 1440p and 4K?

I'm considering pairing an RX 9070 XT with my existing Intel Core i7-10700F and 32GB of DDR4-3600 memory. How much performance would I lose at 1440p compared with 4K gaming? I'm not planning to switch to DDR5 right now, although I might upgrade to something like a Core i5-13600K or 14600K later.

It will work, but it isn’t the ideal pairing if you want to maximize the card at 1440p. The biggest losses will show up in CPU-heavy games, high-FPS gaming, and situations where you want strong minimum frame rates. For normal 1440p gaming and especially 4K, the 10700F is still usable and you can upgrade the platform later if the CPU becomes the limitation.

Right now my 3060 Ti gives me a consistent 70 FPS or more at low settings, so I’m mainly hoping the new card lets me increase image quality without immediately requiring a full platform upgrade.

The 10700F should still handle the 9070 XT reasonably well. At 1440p, some CPU-heavy games may leave performance on the table, especially if you’re aiming for very high refresh rates. At 4K, the GPU will usually be the limiting factor, so the older CPU should be less of a problem. Expect around 60 FPS in demanding AAA games with sensible settings, though results will vary by title.

That sounds reassuring. I’m currently using a 3060 Ti and usually get over 70 FPS at low settings, but I’d rather not keep playing everything on low just to maintain that.
