Laptop Won’t Power On After RAM Was Removed While Running

I accidentally removed one of the RAM modules from my HP Laptop 15-dy2795wm while it was powered on. I was reseating the memory and didn't realize the laptop had been switched on. Since then, it will not start. I've tried reinstalling the RAM and performing power-drain resets, but there is still no response. When I connect the charger, the light stays red for about five seconds and then turns white for roughly one second. What could have been damaged, and is the laptop likely repairable?

Try a complete reset: unplug the charger, disconnect the internal battery if possible, hold the power button for 30–60 seconds, then reconnect the battery and charger and test again. Also verify that the memory is compatible and installed in the correct slot. The red-to-white charging-light behavior may be an HP diagnostic indicator, so checking the model’s service manual for the exact blink or color code could help. If the reset and RAM tests do nothing, the failure is probably beyond a simple memory reseat.

Removing RAM while the laptop is powered on can cause a short or electrical damage, potentially affecting the memory, motherboard, or power circuitry. First, disconnect the charger and battery if accessible, remove the RAM, and inspect the contacts and slot for damage. Then test with one known-good module at a time, making sure it is fully seated. If there are still no lights, sounds, or display, the motherboard may need professional diagnosis and could be uneconomical to repair.

I was trying to reseat the RAM and accidentally left the laptop powered on. I didn’t realize it was running until after the module had been removed.
