GPU prices in Norway are unusually high right now, and I'm deciding between an RTX 5070 for 7,890 NOK (about $820) and an RX 9070 XT for 8,990 NOK (about $934). The card will be paired with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Is the extra 1,100 NOK for the RX 9070 XT worth it, or would it make more sense to buy the RTX 5070 or wait for a sale?

For gaming, the RX 9070 XT is the much better buy. It offers significantly more performance for only 1,100 NOK extra, along with 16 GB of VRAM instead of 12 GB. With a 7800X3D, it should make a very strong gaming system.
The RTX 5070 mainly makes sense if you specifically need CUDA, certain video-editing or 3D-rendering software, or strongly prefer DLSS. If this is primarily a gaming PC, the 9070 XT has the better performance-to-price ratio.
Most people in this situation would probably choose the RX 9070 XT without much hesitation. It is faster, has more VRAM, and should last longer for high-settings gaming. Only choose the 5070 if Nvidia’s software features are important for your workload.

Ray tracing isn’t necessarily a reason to choose the 5070 here—the 9070 XT is still very capable with ray tracing and generally outperforms the 5070 overall.
