I'm putting together my first gaming PC and would appreciate some feedback before I buy the parts. The current build costs about £2,566 and includes a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RTX 5080, 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory, a 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and a 1050W Gold-rated power supply. I'm planning to use it with a 4K monitor and want the system to remain capable for as long as possible. I originally considered an RX 9070 XT but decided to stick with the RTX 5080. I've also noticed that the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is only around £14 more. Are there any compatibility concerns, better-value alternatives, or upgrades I should consider?

The RX 9070 XT is worth comparing again if you find one around £550 less. It could offer much better value, but the RTX 5080 may be the safer pick if you want stronger features and are prioritising long-term 4K performance. GPU prices are difficult to predict, so decide whether maximum performance or value matters more to you.
If you intend to keep the motherboard for several years, an X870 board could be worth considering. Depending on the model, you may get features such as PCIe 5.0 connectivity and Wi-Fi 7, giving the platform a little more upgrade headroom. The current B850 board should still be perfectly adequate if you don’t need those extras.
For only about £14 more, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D seems like the better choice. The extra performance and improved 1% lows could help keep gameplay smoother, especially if you’re investing in a high-end 4K setup.
That’s a great suggestion for such a small price difference. I’ll probably switch to the 9850X3D.

The discount is definitely tempting, but I’m hoping to future-proof the system as much as possible and I’m unsure how graphics card pricing will change.
