Are 79–81°C GPU temperatures normal for an RTX 5070?

I recently installed an RTX 5070 with 12GB of VRAM and ran FurMark for about 10 minutes. The GPU reached around 79–81°C. Is that too hot, or is it normal for this generation of graphics cards? My previous GPU was a GTX 1060, so those temperatures seem high by comparison. I'm currently using the fans included with my Antec CX300 ARGB mid-tower case and I'm wondering whether I should buy additional case fans or rely on the current airflow setup.

You could try undervolting the GPU if you want lower temperatures and power usage. A carefully adjusted voltage and frequency curve can sometimes keep nearly the same performance while reducing heat and fan noise. Room temperature also has a noticeable effect, so a few degrees higher ambient temperature can explain the result.

Those temperatures are safe, especially during a demanding stress test like FurMark. The more useful number is the temperature you reach during normal gaming. If gaming temperatures are noticeably lower, your cooling is probably fine.

Three case fans should generally be enough for a system with an RTX 5070, assuming they’re positioned sensibly. If you want to improve airflow, moving a front intake fan to the lower front or bottom position so it feeds air toward the graphics card may help. Also check that the front intake and rear exhaust fans are oriented correctly.

An RTX 5070 can safely run in this range. NVIDIA’s maximum temperature is higher than that, and the card will reduce its speed automatically if it ever gets too hot. I wouldn’t add fans solely because of an 81°C FurMark result, particularly if the GPU is cool enough during regular use.
