I recently bought a used Ryzen 7 5800X3D, and after convincing the seller to ship it, the price increased from $215 to $245, which I'm okay with. The seller sent me two pictures: one shows everything looking normal, but the other has a strange golden smear in the middle of the chip's back. I initially thought it might just be a reflection or visual artifact from the pins, but now I'm wondering if it could be something else. The smear disappears in the second picture, which makes me think it might just be dust that was cleaned off. I'm still within the time frame to cancel the purchase if anyone sees something concerning. Thanks for your help!

That golden smear is probably just light bouncing off the chip rather than anything serious. It looks like a reflection from the ceiling light above. So, you're probably all good!
I see what you mean about the smear, but to me, it looks like a reflection from the pins casting that golden hue. If it’s gone in the other pic, it's likely just dust or a fluke from the angle.
That makes sense! I guess I just couldn't shake that 'what if' feeling.
I think it’s just how the light is hitting the chip. If you're seeing similar reflections in the packaging, it’s probably nothing to worry about. Just dust or a reflection, really.
Good to hear! I thought it looked too spread out and grainy, but you’re probably right.
Hahaha, thanks for the reassurance! I was just worried it could be something more than a reflection.
