PC Powers Off During Modded Minecraft and Blackscreens in Dota 2—Is the PSU Failing?

My computer suddenly makes a click and powers completely off when I launch or play modded Minecraft. The crashes sometimes corrupt my Minecraft files. In Dota 2, the monitor occasionally goes black for a few seconds every few games, although the system does not always fully shut down.

The issue started after I replaced my previous CPU with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. My graphics card is an ASRock Challenger RX 7900 GRE 16GB, and the power supply is an MSI MAG A750GL 750W Gold. I initially had the GPU connected with a daisy-chained power cable, but I changed it to separate PCIe power cables and the crashes continued. I have also checked that the other cables are firmly connected.

Could the PSU be faulty or under too much load, or should I investigate something else first? I have monitored temperatures with AMD software, and the CPU has stayed below 77°C even during heavy gaming with shaders and high chunk-loading activity. I would rather identify the cause before buying another power supply unnecessarily.

Check temperatures and cooler contact anyway, especially since the problem began after the CPU upgrade. A poorly mounted cooler or uneven thermal paste can cause protection shutdowns. That said, a reported CPU temperature under 77°C during demanding workloads makes overheating look less likely, so I would also test the PSU and inspect the GPU power connections.

I have been monitoring the temperatures with AMD software. Even while loading new Minecraft chunks with shaders and during Dota 2 sessions, the CPU has stayed below 77°C.

A sudden complete power-off can definitely point to power delivery, so testing with another known-good PSU is worthwhile. The 750W rating should generally be enough for this CPU and GPU, though a defective unit or transient-power problem is still possible. Use separate PCIe cables for the graphics card, which you have already done, and avoid continuing to stress the system if shutdowns persist.

The brief black screens in Dota 2 could also involve the graphics driver, GPU, or display connection, while a full system power-off is more consistent with a hardware protection event. Reinstall or update the graphics driver and check Windows event logs, but prioritize testing with a different reputable PSU before assuming the motherboard or GPU is damaged.
