Help! My SSD Died Unexpectedly – Can I Recover My Data?

I have an SSD that's about a year old. I recently checked its health with tools like CrystalDiskInfo, and it seemed fine. It was installed as a secondary drive in my ASUS laptop. However, a week ago, it randomly disappeared from my system. It would sometimes reappear after a restart, but eventually, it just died completely. I've tried changing cases and connection methods, but it only stays recognized for a second before disappearing, especially when I try to access any files. I can't test it on a different device just yet, but I'm planning to get my old PC running soon to check it. If that doesn't work, is there a chance I can recover my data, or should I simply go for a warranty claim? I really need to get some photos back from it.

The ideal solution would be to restore your data from backups. But I understand that you don’t have one. It's always a good idea to keep backups, especially for important files like photos. I get it; it’s frustrating when a drive you trust fails unexpectedly so soon.

Yeah, I didn’t expect my SSD to fail this quickly, so backups weren’t on my mind. Thanks for the reminder!

Unfortunately, a dead SSD usually requires professional data recovery services. There's not much you can do at home to fix it once it’s dead. If your data is crucial, then going for professional help is the best route. But keep in mind that it can be pretty expensive. In the meantime, some people suggest putting the SSD in the freezer overnight. Then you can try connecting it to your PC right after taking it out. Some users have had luck with this trick, but there's a good chance that if it’s truly dead, it won't help.

That’s good to know! I’ll try that trick just in case before I consider other options.
