Do I Need to Update the BIOS for a Ryzen 9800X3D on an Asus ROG Strix B650?

Hey everyone! I'm set to build my new PC in a few days and I'm using an Asus ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi board alongside a Ryzen 9800X3D processor. I've heard that this motherboard might need a BIOS update to support the new CPU. Should I do the BIOS update before assembling the PC or can I build it first and then update the BIOS afterwards? Any advice on this would be super helpful!

To really know if you need a BIOS update, find the barcode on your motherboard. The last four digits will tell you which BIOS version is installed. Compare that against what’s required for the 9800X3D. If you need an update, use the BIOS Flashback feature to update it. Since you've had the board for a year, it's likely you'll have to update before using the CPU.

Got it! So this barcode should be visible when I unbox it, right?

First, check the box your motherboard came in for a sticker that says 'Ryzen 9000 Ready.' If it has that, you're good to go with no updates needed. If not, you won't be able to boot the system until you update the BIOS, which you'll have to do using the BIOS Flashback feature. Make sure to check the manual for detailed instructions!

Thanks for the tip!

Just remember, those readiness stickers might have been printed before the 9800X3D release.

I'm curious why you chose this motherboard. What’s the story?

I actually got it for free ages ago! I've been slowly gathering all the parts over the last year and I'm finally about to put everything together.
