Hey everyone, I'm feeling pretty lost here and could really use some guidance. I recently made the leap from Windows 11 to Linux Mint on my Acer One 14 Z2-493 laptop (featuring a Ryzen 3 3250U and AMD Vega 3 with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD). Before the switch, I relied on two applications from CLEVO CO. – Control Center 3.0 and Fan Speed Setting – that let me manage my laptop's fan speed and monitor temperatures. Given that my laptop heats up quickly (let's be real, it's basically a potato), this functionality was crucial.
Now that I'm on Linux Mint, I find myself unable to control the fan, and it's a big deal for me. I've scoured the internet and tried a bunch of guides, but they seem overly complicated and none have worked so far. I'm pretty new to Linux—this is my very first experience—and while Linux Mint is much zippier than Windows 11, I need to sort out this fan control situation.
I'd love to know:
- Can I mod or flash my Insyde BIOS to restore fan control? If yes, could someone please give me a simple step-by-step guide?
- Is there a GUI tool on Linux that could help me manage fan speeds like in Windows?
- Could I potentially get those CLEVO CO. apps to run on Linux via Wine or any other method?
Honestly, I just want to keep this potato cool without having to revert back to Windows 11. Any insights or help from those who've dealt with similar issues would mean the world to me. Thanks!

You might want to check out CoolerControl; I use it on Arch, and it has a GUI that makes fan management pretty straightforward. It could help you out!
Fan controls can be tricky, especially on laptops. The heating issue might actually be due to your laptop being older—consider replacing the thermal paste and cleaning out the fan to improve cooling. This could help even if you can't fully control the fan through software.
So, is it even possible to get this to work? I'm really at my wit's end here, feeling overwhelmed. If anyone can guide me to a solution, I'd be super grateful!
