Why Is My Phantom Spirit 120SE So Loud?

Hey everyone! I've been checking out the Phantom Spirit 120 SE and most reviews praise its performance, but I'm experiencing a huge problem—the cooler is super loud! Once I hit 50% speed, it feels like my head is about to explode. I've already removed the sticker from the bottom and made sure the fans are properly installed. Is this typical for these fans? Would switching them out for Arctic P12s make a difference? Thanks for any help!

Yeah, I think a lot of it might come down to the fan noise. Some users have mentioned the easily noticeable sound from the cooler. I run an open case myself, and my setup is pretty quiet with some TR Infinity Mirror 120s. If you're able to swap out the fans, maybe try Noctua or Arctic fans since they fit well. The P12 is a solid option, though I haven’t paired it with TR coolers myself.

Have you set the fan curve manually? It can make a huge difference. Ideally, your CPU shouldn't need the fans spinning super fast unless it's hitting around 90°C. You might be able to lower that noise level considerably!

Yeah, it might just be those fans. I had a similar experience with the Peerless Assassin in a build I did for my girlfriend—so quiet you have to put your ear to the case to hear it! I swapped some fans out for 140mm ones in my own rig, and while it didn’t get quieter by much, it definitely wasn't a huge increase in noise either.

I totally get where you’re coming from. The Phantom Spirit seems to have a reputation for being loud. I wouldn't mind the typical fan noise, but this cooler sounds like it’s dying on me right out of the box.

Switching fan direction can help too! I found that when I changed my fans to push air instead of pull, it reduced the noise from air turbulence a lot.
