Is Upgrading to a Radeon RX 7900 XTX Worth It Over RTX 2080 Super, or Should I Wait for the 4090?

Hey everyone! I'm considering an upgrade from my current RTX 2080 Super, and I'm weighing my options. I really want a powerful graphics card for gaming and 4K performance. I've been eyeing the Radeon RX 7900 XTX because it's significantly cheaper than the 4090 and has great VRAM, but I'm unsure if it's the right choice. I've saved up about 4000 AUD (around 2555 USD) but purchasing the 4090 would take a huge chunk of that savings. I play a lot of games, including intensive ones like Hogwarts Legacy in VR, and I also enjoy playing modded Skyrim and using software like Blender. Is it worth it to upgrade to the RX 7900 XTX, or should I just hold off and save for the 4090 or 5090? I know the 4090 is more powerful, but I'm curious if the 7900 would serve me better for my needs.

For VR and apps like Blender, Nvidia is kind of the standard for a reason. If you're looking for raw performance, definitely consider sticking with Nvidia over AMD, especially if you want the best experience without many bugs to worry about.

Honestly, if buying the 4090 would wipe out most of your savings, it might be better to consider a mid-range option. You can still play 4K games with upscaling without totally breaking the bank. Cards like the 9070XT or even the 5070Ti could be solid picks for 4K gaming, and they won't leave you financially strapped. Plus, waiting a bit might give you more options down the line!

The 7900 XTX is a solid choice and is comparable to the 4080 Super, but definitely not on the level of the 4090. If you're okay with a bit of downsizing in performance, the 5070Ti is a good value and should handle your gaming needs well. Just remember, AMD can have some issues, and Nvidia might be better for tasks like Blender and VR.

That's what I've heard too. I think Nvidia tends to outshine AMD when it comes to certain creative software. Just something to keep in mind if you're using Blender a lot!

Everyone loves cheering for the underdogs like AMD, but you don't want to risk wiping your savings for a GPU. The 4090 is indeed much stronger, but if you don't need all that power, it might be smart to go for something like the 5070Ti. It's more than enough for 4K gaming, and your electricity bills will thank you as well!
