Can I Power PC Case Fans for My Laptop via USB?

Asked By GamerDude42 On

I recently picked up some PC case fans for just $2, and I'm eager to use them to help cool my gaming laptop. However, I don't have access to SATA power for these fans. Is there a ready-made USB-powered fan hub available on sites like Amazon? If anyone has suggestions for products or alternative solutions, I'd really appreciate it!

Just a heads-up, most case fans run on 12V, while USB typically delivers only 5V. You might need a step-up converter or find a way to power them externally. Some power bricks for external drives have the right connectors, but you’ll need to be careful about compatibility. It might be a bit tricky unless you're comfortable with some DIY.

Have you thought about just getting a laptop cooling pad? They work really well and are designed for that purpose. They might cost around $90 for a good one, though! But hey, if you're looking to be inventive, I get it!
