Hey everyone! I'm really interested in using Claude Max in Visual Studio Code, but I'm wondering when the official extension will be released. I have to say, I feel like Claude Code doesn't stack up against Cline, so I'm eager for any updates!

You can actually start using Claude in VS Code right now! Just open the terminal and type 'Claude' to get it running. It might not be the official extension, but it's a decent workaround. If you want to make it a bit more accessible, you can move the terminal to the main editor area as a pane.
Hi, this is Nick from Cline! I’m curious why you’re hesitant about using Cline. We support all of Anthropic's models, so you could use Claude within VS Code or even with Cursor/Windsurf if you prefer. Just wondering what you're looking for in a tool!
I’ve been developing Python in VS Code and found that it works pretty well. What I do is open my project folder, start a terminal inside VS Code, activate my virtual environment, and then just run Claude from there. It surprisingly functions smoothly!
Hey Nick! I really like Cline, but my issue is mostly about cost. I was racking up $100-150+ per month with the Anthropic API before Max came out, and I need something that fits my budget better. I love the way Cline handles things and the recent improvements, but I'm drawn to Claude's flat fee model with high usage caps. Have you considered a multi-model approach for cost optimization? Just a thought!
