Could My SSD Health at 57% Be Causing Lag on My PC?

Hey everyone! I've been using my i7 8700 PC for years without issues. A few days ago, I added an RX 580 GPU, and everything was smooth until today when my system started lagging a lot while running Windows. I checked the health of my C drive SSD, and it's at 57%. Could that be the culprit? I also have 16GB DDR4 RAM installed. Any thoughts?

A 57% health score on a WDC Green SSD suggests it’s starting to degrade. This can definitely slow down your PC, especially since Windows relies heavily on disk performance for background tasks. Along with checking your SSD, make sure your PSU can handle the RX 580 and isn't overheating. Replacing the SSD should be a priority to improve performance!

Thanks for the insight! My GPU temperatures are okay, around 49°C idle and maxing at 82°C during benchmarks. I might have a low watt PSU (Corsair VS450), but I’ll check if it’s sufficient. I do have an NVMe M.2 SSD but haven't installed Windows on it yet. Gonna tackle that today since Windows is feeling sluggish on basic tasks.

Another thing to try is updating your SSD firmware. Also, consider creating a 10GB or 15GB empty partition and ensuring you set it up with a GPT partition scheme; that might help optimize performance a bit.

Definitely check your power supply. While 450W is usually okay for your setup, some GPUs can be demanding under load, and you want to ensure you have a solid PSU to avoid random issues. Just make sure you're not running too many additional drives as that can also affect stability.

If you’ve got that NVMe SSD set up, installing Windows on it right away should drastically enhance your performance. It’ll help bypass the bottleneck created by the WDC Green SSD, which is a good idea given the lag you're experiencing!

Absolutely, I'm planning to do that today. Thanks for the tip!
