Hey everyone! I'm trying to upgrade my desktop CPU to boost my gaming performance and improve my experience on IT simulation sites. Here's my current setup: I'm using an Nvidia 3060 RTX GPU and an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G CPU. My motherboard is an MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Max WiFi, and I've got a Corsair RM750e power supply. I'm considering either a Ryzen 7 or 9 for the upgrade. I might upgrade my GPU later on, but I feel like focusing on the CPU makes more sense right now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! 😁

If you're looking for an upgrade, consider going with the 5700X3D. Some folks have recommended the 5800X3D too, but it tends to be overpriced and might not be worth it. Just make sure to update your BIOS before swapping CPUs. And a heads up, you'll probably want to upgrade your GPU later on to see a more significant FPS boost!
I've heard the 5700X is a solid upgrade from the 5700G. Do you think pairing it with a 40 series GPU would be a good choice for my PSU?
Honestly, unless you're planning to jump to AM5, upgrading to something like the 5700X3D might only give you a minor boost, if that. Plus, with your current 3060, you'll likely face GPU bottlenecking anyway. Investing in a 5900X or 5950X might not give you the returns you're hoping for.
Since you're already on the AM4 platform, have you thought about upgrading to AM5? Just keep in mind that you'd need a new motherboard and RAM for that. If you want to stick with your current setup, the 5950X with its 16 cores could really bring some power!
Check out this potential upgrade link for the 5900X: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sku/6589133.p?skuId=6589133&sb_share_source=PDP - Looks promising!
I have DDR4 RAM and did a motherboard upgrade recently. Is the 5900X a good choice for those looking to not break the bank?
Aren't the X3D CPUs primarily aimed at gaming? How do they perform for IT simulations though?
