Hey everyone! I've been following the news about Deepseek and their R2 model. Initially, it seemed like they were planning to launch it in early May, but now that time has passed, there doesn't seem to be any release. I heard they might have been trying to push it out even sooner, but now it looks delayed. Has anyone heard any updates or info I might have missed?

Honestly, if Deepseek could hold a candle to Western models, they would have launched it by now. I wouldn’t be surprised if R2 ends up being a disappointment like other models.

That's a fair point. They might just not be able to keep pace with OpenAI and DeepMind anymore.

Right? They seem to be lagging behind on consistent performance these days.

There are probably deeper issues at play, like compute resources and possibly even regulations. With so many active users, they might be feeling the pressure. Also, there's a theory floating around about delays due to the government’s intervention. Just a thought!

That makes sense. With such a large user base, they might face scrutiny that affects their development timelines.

Training AI models isn't a walk in the park. Even if everything looked good on paper, they might be dealing with unexpected issues during training, which could lead to delays.

Yeah, that's a real possibility. They could be facing setbacks that aren't publicly known yet.

From what I've seen, it sounds like they might still be having some challenges. Their last comments suggest they need to hit higher benchmarks to keep interest. If they can't compete with the big names like OpenAI, they might struggle to raise excitement for R2.

DataDude95 -

Exactly! R1 managed to make waves because it was almost on par with the industry's best. If R2 doesn't step up, people won't care, especially with OpenAI planning to release a new model soon.

It's also not just about performance; cost is a major factor. If they can't offer something competitive on that front too, it'll be tough for them.
