Why is my Ethernet connection so unstable lately?

I've been using an Ethernet connection for years, but recently it's become really unreliable. My WiFi is still strong (about 70 Mbps down and 9 Mbps up), but my PC's wired connection is choppy, making online gaming impossible. Streaming videos works fine, but I frequently lose connection when browsing sites like Reddit or Wikipedia. A speed test shows I'm getting 450 Mbps down and 11 Mbps up, which seems good, but something isn't right. What could be causing this issue?

You should definitely test or replace your cable. If you aren't sure how to test it, look for Ethernet cable testers online. They can be pretty handy! Otherwise, it’s good you ordered a replacement.

Thanks for the tip! I ordered one, so I’m hoping that fixes it.

If changing the cable doesn't work, the next step is to check your network interface card (NIC) or even the hub/switch it's connected to. It’s also possible that moisture got into the jack. Remember, it's often a simple fix like that, even if it feels like a bigger issue.

It sounds like there could be an issue with your Ethernet cable. Maybe it's been damaged by being stepped on or crimped, or it could be loose at the RJ45 end. My recommendation is to try replacing the cable and see if that helps!

I'll check it out! My goat, Wilson, tends to chew on things, so it might be him causing the problem.

Once, I had a latch on my Ethernet cable that was broken. It was still plugged in, but my speed dropped significantly. Definitely worth looking into!
