I was formatting my external hard drive, and it suddenly stopped about 30 seconds in. Now, Windows detects the drive, but whenever I try to access it or format it again, my entire PC starts lagging, and I have to restart. What steps can I take to fix this?

It sounds like your hard drive might be failing. I recommend backing up any important files as soon as you can. If it's still under warranty, consider reaching out to the manufacturer for a replacement.
Make sure it's connected properly, as it should show up in Device Manager. But if your PC keeps lagging, it could indicate an issue with the drive itself.
If the drive is new, it might be defective. You could try getting an RMA from the retailer or manufacturer to get it replaced.
It's actually brand new, and I just plugged it in when Windows prompted me to format it.
