Is the Cooler Master Hyper 612 Apex a Good Cooler for the 9800x3d?

I'm considering the Cooler Master Hyper 612 Apex for my Ryzen 7 9800x3d, but I'm a bit concerned about its performance. Due to space constraints, I really need a cooler of this size, and I want to avoid all-in-one liquid coolers. I've seen a few positive reviews, but I'm wondering how well it will actually handle gaming and heavy workloads. Has anyone had experience with this cooler? Thanks!

It works decently under normal use, but during heavy loads, you might risk thermal throttling. If you're open to it, I suggest looking for a decent AIO cooler with at least a 240mm radiator. However, I get that that's not ideal for everyone!

I get the concern about AIOs. I recently came across a review that tested the Hyper 612 Apex with a 9800x3d and it averaged around 54°C and peaked at 72°C in Cinebench, which isn't terrible. But what exactly do you consider a heavy load?

If thermal throttling is a worry, maybe you could try putting your 9800x3d into Eco mode in the BIOS, which limits it to around 60-65W. That could make a difference!

It should handle normal tasks just fine, but for heavy gaming or intense workloads, it might struggle. You might want to consider a more robust cooler, like the Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360L Core, if you're pushing your CPU hard.
