Why Does My Laptop Shut Down When I Hold It a Certain Way?

I've noticed that my laptop shuts down unexpectedly when I hold it at a certain angle, which seems to bend the motherboard. I'm thinking of adjusting the screws to minimize the bending. Does anyone have suggestions or tips on how to fix this?

Sounds like a tricky situation! First off, have you considered just avoiding that position? It might sound simple, but bending can definitely cause issues. If you’re carrying it in a backpack, try to make sure it’s well-supported.

I totally get that! Sometimes it just shuts down if it gets jostled too much in my bag. I ended up having to take action since mine wouldn't wake up for ages.

Classic advice: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this."

Well, you just need to stop doing that! It sounds funny, but it’s pretty accurate with these kinds of problems.

It could be a cable issue too. If there’s a kink somewhere, that might mess with the connections. You might want to check if it’s the motherboard or just a loose cable. Also, using a lap board could help keep it from flexing when you hold it.

Yeah, I'm thinking a sturdier plastic case might help with that flexing. I don't think adjusting screws will solve this problem.

Honestly, there's not much you can do other than to support it differently. If it’s shutting down, consider getting something like a lap board to prevent it from bending while you're working.
