Can I Earn While Learning C++ as a Hobby?

Hey everyone! I'm an undergrad studying something completely different, but I've always had a passion for programming. I dabbled in Python back in high school, but found that I lack motivation without a clear end goal. Recently, I've started getting back into programming and am currently focused on C++ because I find it more exciting than Python. After I finish a tutorial from www.learncpp.com, how likely is it that I could jump into some projects or even earn a little bit of money from my efforts? I'm struggling to come up with my own projects, and I'm worried that if I can't join any, all this learning will feel wasted.

If this is just for fun, why worry about making money? But I get the idea of wanting a little motivation! Maybe aim for small freelance projects or open contracts where you earn a bit while learning. Just remember, programming can be a lengthy journey, so don’t put too much pressure on it.

Exactly! Even earning small sums, like $10 a month, can provide that motivation boost. It’s like having a goal to keep you engaged. I’d say go for it!

Starting projects can be tough, but that’s all part of the learning curve! Aim for projects that are just a bit challenging, so you're constantly improving. Remember, if you’re questioning your time spent on this, it could mean you need to reconnect with your passion for it.

There's a wealth of open-source projects looking for contributors! It could be a perfect way to get involved, especially with C++. Who knows, maybe the retro gaming community needs coders like you!

There are tons of opportunities out there! Look into remote services or even game development. That could be a fun avenue to explore with C++. Just make sure you're ready to tackle smaller projects first to build up your skills!

Sounds great! Do you have any recommendations for courses or smaller gaming projects I could check out?

Keep in mind that even full-time developers are finding it tough to land jobs these days. Since you're not looking for a career but just some enjoyable side work, keep focused on projects that spark your interest. It’s all about what makes you happy.

Totally! I'm just trying to find something that helps me unwind from my usual commitments.
