I'm coming from a solid background in server and storage work, but I haven't dealt with desktop setups in quite some time. Currently, our field engineers are manually installing specific software on Windows 11 laptops, and it's quite a hassle because some of this software has strict licenses that require training to even install. I'm looking for a more efficient way to deploy these machines. I'm thinking about creating a Windows image to simplify the process. However, my experience in deployments goes back to using Norton Ghost, so I'm a bit out of the loop. I also have a very tight budget and limited time to set this up. What are my best options moving forward?

You might want to check out the WAPT deployment utility, as it’s built for versatility, especially for scenarios like yours with field technicians needing various software.
Have you considered using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT)? Setting it up isn't too complicated, but keep in mind that it's being deprecated starting December 2024, so you might want to explore alternatives if you plan for long-term use.
If your organization is already into Microsoft 365, you could look into Intune and Autopilot. I recently set it up for a new office and managed to deploy all necessary applications automatically after some adjustments.
DISM is a great tool for deploying base images if you have the time to get familiar with it. It’s free and worth the initial setup effort to get everything running smoothly.
