I recently got a notification saying my iPhone 14's battery might need to be replaced. Since replacing the battery is kind of pricey, I'm trying to figure out what makes more sense: getting a new battery or just replacing my phone altogether. What are the downsides of replacing the battery? Is there a chance this will damage my phone?

Getting a battery replacement won’t harm your phone, especially if you go through Apple. If you have AppleCare, the replacement should be fairly inexpensive. Just be aware that getting AppleCare for a phone over 2 years old is tricky; I’m not sure if you'd qualify for free replacement if you sign up now.
Definitely get your battery replaced at an Apple store if you can. DIY replacements can mess up your phone—my family tried once, and the phone ended up completely useless!
A new battery costs around $99, which is a lot cheaper than buying a new phone, which can go for about $1000. So, if your phone isn’t having serious battery problems right now, it might be better to hold off until you really need a new battery. If they break something during the replacement, that's on them, and they should cover it.
