Will My Laptop Still Turn On If I Set the Power Button to Do Nothing?

I'm curious about the power button settings on my laptop. If I set it to "do nothing" when I press it, will I still be able to turn my laptop on when it's completely off? I don't want to accidentally lock myself out and not be able to power it back on. I'm using Windows 11, so any insights would be appreciated!

Your system settings will only affect the button's function during Windows operation. So, if the laptop is off, it'll turn on just fine, regardless of what you've set in Windows.

Great to know! Thanks for the reassurance!

Just to add, you can still power off your laptop by holding the power button for about 5 seconds, even if it’s unresponsive. So you’re covered in case anything goes wrong!

Yep, the settings you change don't affect the button when the system isn't on. It will still function as a power button, so feel free to set it to do nothing—your laptop will still wake up when you press it!

Thanks for clarifying! That’s a relief.

The power button setting only matters when Windows is running. If your laptop is off, pressing the power button will still turn it on, no worries there!
