I'm facing some issues updating the firmware on my Samsung 980 Pro SSD after installing it in my Asus Rog Strix laptop's M.2 slot. I installed Samsung Magician, and while it recognizes the SSD, I'm getting a "Failed to update firmware on the selected drive" error message. I also tried creating a bootable USB with the firmware .iso file, but when I select it in the BIOS, all I see is a blank screen with a cursor. I've disabled both VMD and Secure Boot in the BIOS, yet the problem persists. I originally used this SSD on my PlayStation 5, so it's not formatted as NTFS, and I'm not sure if that could be affecting the update process. I'd love some input on what I can do next!

I found a solution! I realized that having both VMD and Secure Boot enabled was blocking the firmware update through Samsung Magician. Additionally, since BitLocker was active on Windows 11, I couldn't just disable those options without dealing with some recovery key issues. What worked for me was installing Windows 10 on my laptop. I created some space on my internal SSD, made a bootable Windows 10 USB, booted from that, and installed Windows 10 after disabling VMD and Secure Boot. Once everything was set up, I installed Samsung Magician on that OS and the firmware update went smoothly! Now, I just had to tweak the boot settings to get back to Windows 11 without any issues. It's a bit of a process, but it worked!
That sounds like a solid plan! Thanks for sharing the steps, it’s really helpful to know that you got the update done by using a separate Windows installation.
