Is it Normal to Forget Linux Commands?

I've been diving into Linux and networking through an online course lately, and I've noticed something concerning. Although I grasped the concepts well at the time, when I revisited the material weeks later without practice, I found I could barely remember anything! For example, I can recall part of a command like "ip addr...something", but not the full command itself. Is this a common issue? Am I just bad at remembering, or is forgetting commands normal when you don't use them daily?

You don’t need to memorize everything. As long as you know how to look up what you need, you'll be fine. Don’t stress too much about it!

Absolutely, it all comes down to usage. The key is remembering that the commands exist. Creating a cheat sheet can also be super helpful, with commands and simple notes about what they do.

This is totally normal and happens to everyone, trust me. I've been at this for 30 years and still forget things. The best techs are those who keep good notes!

You definitely forget what you don't regularly use. It's pretty normal! Keeping notes can really help, too, so you have something to look back on later.

It’s common to forget stuff if you don’t use it often. Focus more on understanding concepts rather than memorizing commands. That way, you can always refer back to documentation when you need specifics.
