How Can I Upgrade the RAM on My Old Acer Laptop?

I'm new to the computer world and just switched from my broken 2019 HP to a 2009 Acer laptop. It currently has only 4GB of RAM, which feels pretty low for today's standards, so I'd like to upgrade it. I tried using the Crucial RAM scanner to find compatible options, but it came back with a 'no system match was found' message. Is there a way I can find compatible RAM on my own, or is there another tool I could use that's better suited for older laptops? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It's possible that your Acer might have soldered RAM without any upgrade slots, so I recommend checking your specific model to see if it's upgradable. You could also take off the cover to see if the RAM is removable. If it is, look for the sticker on the RAM itself—this will tell you the manufacturer and specifications, which can help you find compatible options.

eBay is a great resource for finding memory upgrades for older computers. Many people part out old devices and sell components like memory DIMMs/SODIMMs at affordable prices. Just search for your Acer's exact model information. There’s always a bit of risk with second-hand memory, but I’ve never had issues with it, and the prices are usually fantastic!
