Is ChatGPT Tracking My Location?

I find it really unsettling to think that ChatGPT might know where I'm located, especially since I've turned off my chat history and location services. I don't care so much about it accessing my IP, but it's the way it denies any tracking that creeps me out. Recently, when I asked about the price of a car and then a gaming PC, it ended its responses with specific tips related to my country, which caught me off guard. When I asked how it knew, it just kept saying it was based on coincidence or general language patterns. Does anyone else feel the same way or had a similar experience?

It sounds to me like ChatGPT could be estimating your location based on your IP address, even if it claims otherwise. Many online services do that nowadays! I think it’s possible for it to make educated guesses based on user behavior and location data, and it can be pretty accurate. Just be aware; it’s part of how many platforms operate these days.

You're definitely not alone in feeling uneasy about this! Many people have noticed similar things where AI seems to know too much about their location. Even if you use incognito mode or a VPN, it sometimes can still figure things out based on other data. It’s frustrating that they don't just own up to it when asked directly!

You might be surprised at how well old techniques like IP tracking still work. AI tools aren’t reinventing the wheel; they’re just using tried-and-true methods to get information. Hopefully, as data privacy increases, we’ll see changes in how these AIs handle location info.
