Hey everyone! I just got a Dell Precision 3480 Notebook with an i7 processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD. I'm completely new to Linux—I'm currently doing an apprenticeship in IT and I really dislike Windows. I've tried Ubuntu for school assignments, but it felt like I was just copying and pasting from ChatGPT to get through them. I want to really learn how to use Linux, with the goal of switching over completely from Windows for personal use. Do you have any tips for getting started?

I was in the same boat as you! I went with Linux Mint Cinnamon. It's super beginner-friendly, and you could technically use it without ever opening the terminal if that's what you want. But it still has all the cool stuff for when you're ready to dive in. Just a heads up, though—it's a bit heavier compared to some other distros.

If you want something straightforward, go for Mint. If you're feeling adventurous, Fedora is a bit more complicated but still pretty good. And if you really want to understand Linux better, the Arch Wiki is a treasure trove of info—much better than just relying on ChatGPT.

You should pick the distro that works best with your hardware and feels comfortable for you. I've been using the same distro for over 20 years because it suits my needs and runs well on my system. A great way to explore is to use a USB stick with Ventoy to try out different distros in a live environment. It’s the best way to learn and figure out what you like!

For beginners, I recommend trying out Zorin OS, DeepinOS, or Linux Mint. They should all run smoothly on your device!
