How Can I Find Local Businesses Without Websites?

Hey folks! I'm a freelance web developer based in Queens, NYC, and I'm looking to build websites for local businesses that are either totally offline or only have outdated ones. My goal is to help these small businesses—like restaurants, barbershops, and auto repair services—get online with modern, user-friendly websites while also growing my freelance portfolio. I'm reaching out to see if anyone has tips on identifying these businesses that lack an online presence. Specifically, I'm curious if anyone has successfully used web scraping tools to find businesses without websites, or if there are APIs and datasets (like Yelp or Google Places) that can help identify these offline businesses. Additionally, I'd love to hear what outreach strategies have worked best for you—whether that's cold emailing, visiting in person, or tapping into local Facebook groups. Thanks a bunch!

Honestly, trying to reach out to businesses that don’t have websites can be really tough. Many owners might be resistant to the idea of someone cold contacting them. In my experience, if they don’t have a website yet, they might not be interested in creating one now, no matter how great your pitch is. Just a heads-up!
