Is DDR5 Worth It for 1080p Gaming?

I'm considering building a new PC and I'm wondering if it's really worth going with DDR5 memory, especially since I'm still gaming at 1080p. Currently, I'm on a setup with an i3-12100F, a GTX 1660 Ti, and DDR4 3200MHz RAM. I just want to know if switching to DDR5 will make a significant difference in my gaming experience or if I should stick with DDR4 for now. Is it a dumb question?

Honestly, benchmarks show that upgrading from good DDR4 to DDR5 doesn't yield a massive performance boost, especially for 1080p gaming. If you're looking for a budget-friendly build, I say stick with DDR4 for now—it’s cheaper and you can pair it with a Ryzen 5600 for solid performance without breaking the bank.

Totally agree! At 1080p, investing in better RAM probably isn’t worth it unless you’re going for high-end CPUs.

If you're making a completely new build, yes, go with DDR5 since DDR4 is being phased out. But if your current setup is running fine for your games, don’t stress about it. Saving a bit might be better if you're not keen on spending just to switch to DDR5.

If you're upgrading or building a new PC, I’d recommend going for DDR5. It's becoming the standard for modern builds. What do you currently have?

I have an i3-12100F with a 1660 Ti, 500GB NVMe, and a B660M pro RS motherboard with DDR4 3200MHz.

Whether you should go for DDR5 really depends on your motherboard and CPU. If you're upgrading to a newer CPU, it likely supports DDR5. But honestly, if you're gaming at 1080p, the jump from DDR4 to DDR5 won't be massive—maybe only around a 10% performance increase. You'd feel more impact by increasing your RAM from 8GB to 16GB or even 32GB, which is more relevant for gaming.

Didn't go for DDR5 just to have it. But if you're building a PC anyway, then sure, it's worth considering. Just remember that if you're playing less demanding games, DDR4 should still serve you well as long as you have a decent amount of it.
