Is the Thermaltake GT 850W PSU Good for My RTX 5080 Build?

I'm putting together a new build with an RTX 5080 and opted for the Thermaltake GT 850W PSU (check it out here: [Thermaltake GT 850W White](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jXCZxr/thermaltake-toughpower-gt-850-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-ps-tpt-0850fnfage-3)). However, I can't find many reviews on it. Some people say it's not great while others think it's okay. I originally considered the MSI MAG A850GL, but the store employee recommended this Thermaltake since it was cheaper. Now, I'm worried that it could be a bad choice that might damage my new PC. Anyone have experience with this PSU?

You might want to check out the PSU tier list. For your build, an A-tier PSU would be ideal. The MSI unit is B-tier, while the Thermaltake ranks below that. Just something to consider if you want the best for your setup.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend the Thermaltake PSU, especially with an expensive GPU like the RTX 5080. In this case, a high-quality PSU is essential. The MSI A850GL isn't the best, but it's better than this option. Where are you located? I can help find some alternatives in your area.

I'm based in Turkey. The local shop had limited options, and although there were better PSUs, they were pricier.

It's tough to say because Thermaltake has a mixed reputation with their PSUs. Some of their models are solid, while others are pretty bad. Given the price of your RTX 5080, I wouldn't take any chances with a PSU like this one.

I thought it was decent too when I bought it, but now I'm really anxious about it frying my system.

I've heard bad things about Thermaltake PSUs in the past. There have been instances where they seemed to downgrade components without letting anyone know, which can be risky. I wouldn’t trust it to protect all your other hardware.

Yeah, it's weird that the store guy was so pushy about it. I've had good luck with Thermaltake products before, but I've never tried their PSUs. Now I'm second-guessing my choice and wishing I'd gone with the MSI MAG A850GL, which seems to have a lot of good feedback.
