I've been trying to enjoy some games like DOOM Dark Ages and Battlefield using my new RTX 5090, but my PC keeps freezing and shutting off completely. I previously had a 3080, and while it crashed a lot, it never actually turned off my computer. Now, with the 5090, my PC seems to have a 50/50 chance of just shutting down during these crashes. The screen freezes to black, and a few seconds later, the PC restarts smoothly. It feels like the power supply might be at fault, but I'm open to any other suggestions.
So far, I've done the following troubleshooting:
* Updated the BIOS
* Clean installed all drivers
* Installed drivers for the integrated GPU
Here's my setup:
* CPU: 9800x3D
* Motherboard: ASRock B650E Taichi
* RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000
* GPU: RTX 5090
* Power Supply: NZXT C1200

Have you checked what motherboard you're using? Sometimes issues can arise if the RAM is set to EXPO. Try turning that off to see if it stabilizes things. It might also help to use DDU to wipe your display drivers completely. If all else fails, consider doing a clean Windows install to eliminate the possibility of software conflicts. Also, undervolting your 5090 could help reduce power consumption and heat, possibly preventing those shutdowns. Although if your PC is completely shutting off, it could indicate a deeper power supply issue, but it sounds like it’s restarting too quickly for that.
My motherboard is ASRock B650E Taichi, and the RAM is currently running on EXPO. It was stable with the 3080 for about six months, so I assumed it would still be okay. I've updated the BIOS and have a fresh install of Windows as well. The PC definitely just goes dark first, and then it shuts off and restarts.
