I'm trying to decide between the RX 9070 and the RTX 5070 for gaming. The RTX 5070 is priced at $665, while the RX 9070 is going for $710. I plan to use it mainly for 1080p gaming but might upgrade to a 1440p display in the future. What do you think? Which card offers better performance for my needs?

Really, for 1080p the RX 9070 works well, but if you're into games that heavily use ray tracing or DLSS, the RTX 5070 is a strong contender. If you're planning on saving for that 1440p OLED down the line, you might just want to go for the 5070.

In terms of pure performance, they're pretty close—a 9070 will be roughly 3% quicker at 1080p and about 7% at 1440p. But if you're into ray tracing, the 5070 edges ahead in that area. Overall, if you're looking for value, lean towards the RX 9070 due to its VRAM advantage. Just keep in mind that Nvidia’s DLSS is a big plus for future titles.

The RX 9070 is generally considered the better choice. It has more VRAM and performs around 5-10% better overall. For certain games, especially ones optimized for consoles, it can outperform the RTX by up to 30%. Plus, Nvidia’s drivers have been having some issues this year, so you might want to steer clear of that for now.

If you want to save some cash for that 1440p upgrade, just get whatever is cheaper between the two. Sometimes, a good deal is more valuable than the performance slight difference!

If you're primarily gaming at 1080p, the RTX 5070 might be fine, but the RX 9070 still holds an edge, especially as VRAM becomes more critical. 12GB of VRAM on the RX 9070 should hold up well, but watch out for settings in future games. Also, Nvidia's support for DLSS is better than AMD's FSR, which could be a big factor as you upgrade your display.

You’re right about DLSS. It really helps improve performance and image quality at higher resolutions.

But, the RX 9070 is still solid for ray tracing, depending on the game. You can't discount its performance.
