I've got an old HP laptop with decent specs: an I5 10th gen processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM (upgraded from 8GB), a 1TB HDD, and a 256GB SSD, plus a Geforce MX130 graphics card. I recently did a clean install with Windows 11 and Atlas OS, but it still feels slow and jittery — opening apps takes longer than expected. I mainly use this laptop for software that isn't compatible with my MacBook and for casual gaming like Minecraft and Lethal Company. I'm concerned because even though I could play GTAV before, I experienced some serious lag spikes that dropped my FPS from 60 to 5 for a few minutes. Any tips on how to boost its performance?

If you want to speed things up significantly, think about upgrading to a faster SSD! You can even replace your HDD with an SSD, as they’re pretty affordable now. If you're still not seeing improvements, maybe try switching to Linux, like Linux Mint, depending on your usage.
Have you thought about giving Linux a shot? It can run really smoothly on older hardware and could provide the speed boost you're looking for!
Consider repasting your CPU and GPU! Overheating can throttle performance, and it might help reduce those lag spikes you’re experiencing.
I can't really afford a new SSD right now since they're pricey where I live. I plan to switch both drives to a 1TB SSD eventually but might hold off until I can get a better deal.
