I'm currently using an Intel i7-7700, but it's starting to feel outdated, especially with a GTX 1080 GPU that's causing some bottlenecking. Plus, my CPU isn't compatible with Windows 11, which means I'll need to upgrade for better future support. I'm looking for recommendations on a stronger CPU that supports Windows 11 and will prevent any bottleneck issues. My budget is around $300, and I'm open to replacing my motherboard if necessary. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You could go for something like an AMD 5600X with a new motherboard and have enough left for an SSD. That’s an excellent upgrade path and would still leave room for a better GPU down the line if you're planning on gaming at 1440p.
Based on your DDR4 RAM, check out this build I found for just under $300: It includes an Intel Core i5-12600K and a B760M motherboard. It's a solid upgrade over your current setup and should keep you running smoothly with Windows 11. Here's the link to the part list!
The i5-12600K is a beast! It will definitely provide a performance boost without breaking the bank.
It's hard to believe you're experiencing a CPU bottleneck with a GTX 1080. For Windows 11, you definitely need a new CPU and motherboard, and you might even consider upgrading your RAM or GPU later, depending on your overall performance goals. Honestly, though, I don't think you can find a meaningful upgrade for that price that's going to solve all your issues. It's quite the challenge under $300!
If you're initially upgrading just the motherboard, RAM, and CPU, you might be fine with your current PSU. New CPUs like the R7 7800X3D draw similar wattage to your i7-7700, especially if you plan to upgrade the GPU later.
Yeah, you're right about needing more than just a CPU to make a real difference. Just make sure you consider your entire setup when buying components.
I upgraded to a Ryzen 7 5700X from an i7-6700 and paired it with an Asrock B550M Pro4 motherboard and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. It made such a difference in speed for my work in video editing and 3D rendering! If your budget allows, this combo could fit your needs well while also supporting Windows 11.
With a budget like yours, I'd recommend looking for a used B550 motherboard along with a 5600X or even a 5700X. You'll get pretty strong performance for 1080p gaming or even 1440p. But to be honest, I doubt the GTX 1080 is as bottlenecked by your i7 as you think!
That's a great suggestion! If they have DDR4 RAM to reuse, that's definitely the way to go.
