Hey everyone! I'm looking for some guidance on upgrading my CPU. Right now, I've got a Ryzen 9 5900X, and I'm wondering what options are out there for an upgrade while sticking with the AM4 socket so I don't have to buy a new motherboard. Also, I'm curious about the Threadripper CPUs for when I do eventually upgrade the mobo for Windows 11 compatibility. What do you all think?

If you decide to go with AM5, you will need to upgrade your RAM as well since AM5 doesn't support DDR4. Aim for DDR5, like a 16GB kit at 6000 MHz, to maximize performance!

If you're focused on gaming, you might consider the Ryzen 5800X3D or the 5700X3D. But honestly, those are getting pretty pricey, so you might want to look at moving to the AM5 platform instead for better long-term options.

The Ryzen 5000 series is the last lineup on the AM4 platform. Upgrading to a 5950X or a 5800X3D might not be worth it since you already have a solid 5900X. But seriously, what makes you think about getting a Threadripper? It’s generally for heavy workloads, not really for casual users unless you're doing some intense work.

Lol, I’m not really doing anything that needs a Threadripper, it's just the allure of having one. I have a B550M AC motherboard, and it seemed like my setup was all fine for Windows 11 except for the motherboard.

Honestly, I’d say there's no solid upgrade on AM4. If you're looking for a real boost, it might be time to switch to AM5. Your 5900X is already quite powerful!

Yes, you will need to get new DDR5 RAM. It's a must since they aren't compatible with DDR4.

Since you're into gaming and streaming, going to AM5 could be a great move for the future. For that, you might look into either the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D when you make the leap.

With the 5900X, you're already at a good point without spending a ton. The only worthwhile upgrade on AM4 would be a 5700X3D, but those aren’t cheap. A jump to AM5 really opens up more possibilities.
